SOCIAL IMPACT
There is no local settlement within the project area. The nearest settlement is Kg. Mukandot, which is approximately 40 km from the nearest boundary of the Project Area. The communities from Kg. Mukandot do not have a direct interest in the Project Area.
However, based on the SIA survey and records of Social Forestry Committee meetings, the teriti whom were given the permits by the Wildlife Department to harvest/collect birds' nests in VJR Batu Timbang have been actively involved in NGR-SFM project area.
Therefore, the Sabah Forestry Departement is planning to take the initiative to involve the bird's nest collectors in community forestry programs within Northern Gn. Rara project area.
THE ESTABLISHMENT OF SOCIAL FORESTRY COMMITTEE FOR THE BIRD'S NEST COLLECTORS OF NGR SFM PROJECT
SFD had established a Social Forestry Committee for the Bird's Nest Collectors. The purpose of the committee is to communicate and consult with the Teritis' and Heirs birds nest collectors of VJR Batu Timbang, Kg. Kuamut. The appointed Social Forestry committee as follows:

MITIGATION MEASURES AND SOCIAL MONITORING
- Measurement of perimeters around the boundary map of VJR Bt. Timbang to be made more comprehensive in the future by using the resources of NGR-SFM project.
- Shift patrolling schedules and the monitoring program for the bird nest collecting activities to be prepared. The monitoring activities will be conducted by quarterly basis.
- Certificate of Identity (COI) to be issue and implement within the project area for the registered Teritis' and Heirs’ of the bird nest collecting activities. The records of COI will be compiled.
- All collected bird nest will be recorded and scaled at the NGR-SFM project FCS checking station Bt. Timbang. The report of the recorded and scaled bird nest will be sent to the Sabah Wildlife Department for further actions.
Resolution:
After several Bird Nest’s Stakeholder Consultations had been conducted, the Social Forestry Committee had agreed to came up a cooperation agreement. The purpose of the cooperation agreement is to have an agreement between SFD (NGR SFM Project and the Teritis' and Heirs of the Bird Nest's collectors) on on certain issues (i.e Rules & Regulations, State Forest Policy, etc), without disregarding the welfare of the Teritis' and Heirs of the Bird Nest's collectors. The agreement and resolution must be made available in the Social Impact Assesment report. A copy of the agreement is made available in this FMP.
