Heartwood bright yellow in Nauclea subdita, light to bright yellowish or orange pink in Neonauclea calycina, pale pink in Neonauclea benandoi, orange buff or deep orange in Nauclea orientails, bright orange yellow or saffron yellow, but losing the bright yellow colour and becoming orange red on prolonged exposure in Nauclea jung hu hii. Sapwood lighter coloured merging gradually into the heartwood.
