IMPAS/KEMPAS (Koompassia malaccensis)


COLOUR (UNIFORMITY):

Heartwood pinkish when freshly cut, darkening to a bright orange red or deep brown.  The vessels surrounding the parenchyma appears as yellow brown lines, giving the timber an appearance of salted meat.  Sapwood is white or pale yellow, sharply defined and about 2" wide.



DURABILITY:

Not durable when in contact with the ground in the tropics.



USES:

For flooring to withstand normal traffic less than 2,000 persons per day, as in village and assembly halls, school and college classrooms, hospitals, hotel cafeteria, offices, shops, wharf construction (when treated to refusal) cargo handling pallets, railway wagon floors, etc,.
